Welcome to Mumah Foundation

Mumah Foundation is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the wellbeing of women, children, and displaced families through education, economic empowerment, and community resilience.

Founded in Texas and recognized as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, Mumah Foundation was established by a family whose own journey—from rural hardship to opportunity—shaped a lifelong commitment to service, faith, and human dignity.

Working across the United States and Africa, we partner with communities to restore hope, strengthen resilience, and create pathways to opportunity for those most affected by poverty and displacement.

Who We Are

Mumah Foundation was founded in 2022 by the children of Mumah John Tata Yumo, a humble farmer, respected patriarch, lay preacher and church planter of the Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) from Bangolan, in the North West Region of Cameroon.

Despite coming from a very modest background, Mumah John Tata Yumo lived a life rooted in faith in God, integrity, hard work, and service to others. He believed deeply in the power of education and moral values, and through sacrifice and perseverance, he successfully raised and educated eleven children.

Today, his children live and serve both in the United States and Cameroon, working in diverse fields including medicine, education, military and public service, evangelism, program management, and business. Together, they carry forward their father's legacy by extending opportunity and compassion to others.

Mumah John Tata Yumo
Farmer, lay preacher and church planter (Cameroon Baptist Convention), and father whose values of faith, hard work, and commitment to education inspired the creation of Mumah Foundation

Mumah John Tata Yumo was more than a farmer. As a lay preacher and church planter of the CBC, he dedicated his life to strengthening both the spiritual and social fabric of his community. He believed that faith must be lived through service, compassion, and responsibility.

His life stands as a testimony that poverty does not define destiny. Through discipline, faith, and commitment to education, one family's journey became the inspiration for a foundation serving many.

Mumah Foundation exists to translate this legacy into practical action for families facing hardship today.

Our Programs & Focus Areas

Mumah Foundation implements community-based programs designed to restore dignity, promote self-reliance, and strengthen resilience—particularly among internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable groups.

Education Support & Scholarships

Education is a powerful pathway out of poverty and instability.

In Cameroon, Mumah Foundation has supported internally displaced children and youth affected by the ongoing Anglophone crisis through:

  • Educational scholarships
  • School fee assistance
  • Learning materials and supplies

These efforts help displaced students remain in school, regain stability, and pursue long-term opportunities.

Economic Empowerment & Income-Generating Activities

Displacement often strips families—especially women—of livelihoods and income.

Mumah Foundation has supported internally displaced women and youth through:

  • Seed funding for small businesses
  • Support for income-generating activities
  • Micro-enterprise and informal trade initiatives

These programs promote self-reliance, improve household income, and reduce dependency on emergency aid.

Community Resilience & Wellbeing Emerging Focus

Building on our experience in education and livelihoods, Mumah Foundation is expanding its work to address broader community wellbeing, including:

  • Maternal and child health
  • Health education and prevention
  • Psychosocial support and resilience

We believe education, economic stability, and health are interconnected pillars of recovery.
